Sand Portrait
Scattered, it is sand. Gathered, it is art. Seven scenes, triple sensing - gesture, sound, motion - give every luminous grain a breath. A touch shatters; release restores - like memory, like tides.
About This Work
An image is deconstructed into thousands of luminous grains. They float quietly, composing a clear face or landscape. But the moment a finger passes through, the picture scatters like sand dunes blown by wind. When the disturbance stops, each point of light returns to its origin by invisible gravity, slowly reconstituting the image. Seven built-in scenes - Datawilds, Landscape, Taichi, Van Gogh, Zen, Lotus - provide distinct visual foundations, while the seventh, Free mode, lets you upload any image. Triple hardware sensing gives the sand portrait a body: microphone captures ambient volume to drive particle breathing, camera detects motion to project ripples, and MediaPipe hand tracking renders your hand shape live among the particles. The force field toggles between repulsion and attraction with adjustable radius. Sand Portrait poses an ancient question about order and chaos: is form solid, or merely a temporary compromise?
